I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly

The number of jellyfish blooms has apparently been increasing in recent years, with massive swarms of jellyfish forming in certain regions of the world. Theories of the cause behind this phenomenon include:

  • Agricultural runoff stimulating phytoplankton blooms that directly or indirectly provide increased amounts of food to jellyfish.
  • Overfishing may increase jellyfish numbers by reducing predation and competition for food.

According to photographer and lifesaver Grahame Long, the blue mass extended 50 meters in circumference.
